BUCKS COUNTY SOCIETY FOR PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

LAHASKA, Pennsylvania, 18931-0277 United States

Mission Statement

The Bucks County SPCA assists animals in need and prevents suffering through rescue, rehoming, cruelty investigation and prosecution, and community outreach. With our community’s support we have grown and expanded, now operating two open-admission, no-time-limit shelters in Lahaska and Quakertown. We also provide extensive humane investigation and education programs. The Bucks County SPCA works to keep animals in their homes and out of the shelter system by offering temporary boarding for pets referred by a social service agency during emergencies and donating pet supplies to food pantries. We are an independent locally-supported nonprofit, and not part of a national organization or county government.

About This Cause

Animal Adoptions Every year, hundreds of animals are turned into our shelters either as strays or unwanted pets. The Bucks County SPCA is the perfect place to look for a companion. We receive all kinds of animals, including: purebred and mixed breeds, dogs, cats, rabbits and other small animals, birds, reptiles, and even farm animals rescued through our animal cruelty investigations. Each animal that comes into our shelters is evaluated for health and temperament. They receive excellent medical care by our own veterinary team. Dogs, cats, and rabbits are spayed or neutered before adoption. By working with each animal to better understand his or her personality and history, our staff can help you find a good companion to fit your lifestyle and household. All adoptions include a 60-day money back guarantee should you need to return the animal for any reason. Adopters can view animals available for adoption from our shelters in Lahaska and Quakertown by visiting our website at www.bcspca.org. As of March 15, 2020, all adoptions and other services are by appointment only. Animal Cruelty Investigations The Bucks County SPCA was founded by a small but determined group of agents in the early 1900s who patrolled the county investigating cruelty to animals. Incorporated in 1912, with a shelter opened in Lahaska in the 1930s, BCSPCA has been investigating reports of animal cruelty for more than a century. Our team of Humane Society Police Officers (HSPO) are trained and authorized to enforce Pennsylvania animal cruelty laws, rescue animals who are abandoned or mistreated, and appear in court to prosecute animal abusers. In 2019, our investigations resulted in the rescue of 545 dogs, cats, small animals, and farm animals. The team responded to 502 complaints of possible animal cruelty or neglect. If you suspect animals in Bucks County are being abused or neglected, please email reportcruelty@bcspca.org or call 215-794-7425. Community Outreach The Bucks County SPCA offers a variety of humane education programs for children and first responders. We host programs and tours for schools and scout groups covering safety around animals, responsible pet care and other related topics. We host special presentations to teach first responders how to handle animals during emergencies. Our volunteer program is robust and offers opportunities in a structured program where volunteers receive training in animal care and behavior. Low Cost Spay/Neuter for cats The Bucks County SPCA offers low-cost sterilization for community cats as hundreds of unwanted kittens are brought in to our shelters every year. These services are aimed at reducing the outdoor cat population by preventing unwanted litters of kittens. Residents of Bucks County can schedule a feline spay/neuter appointment by calling either of our clinics in Lahaska (215-794-7425) or Quakertown (267-347-4674).
