About This Cause
Originally established in 1934 as the Wyomissing Institute of Fine Arts to create access to the arts, the Yocum Institute for Arts Education offers multi arts on-site instruction. In addition, an extensive outreach program through partnerships with public and private schools, colleges, universities, county libraries and other non profit organizations was developed to assure access to the arts throughout the county. On-site instruction includes music, dance, visual arts, theater, martial arts and a Pennsylvania Department of Education licensed arts-based preschool and kindergarten. An early learning toddler program for 2 and 3 year old children is also available. Although programs for all ages are available, 85% of those we serve are youth under the age of 16 - 25% from at-risk families. One of Yocum Institute's signature outreach programs is Neighborhood Bridges@, a critical literacy program, made possible through a partnership with Children's Theater Company in Minneapolis and facilitated in selected classrooms in the Reading School District. The Yocum Institute also offers a full schedule of concerts, theater productions and Exhibits throughout the year.
