Mission Statement

Bethesda Mission has been providing hope and healing to hurting and homeless people in the Greater Harrisburg area since 1914.

About This Cause

Men's Mission: As Harrisburg’s primary homeless shelter for men, the historic facility at 611 Reily Street provides long-term recovery programs along with lodging, nutritious meals, hot showers, laundry facilities, and clothing as needed. Women's Mission: The Women and Children’s Shelter provides lodging and recovery programs for single women as well as mothers and their children. Community Center: Bethesda Mission Community Center exists to develop meaningful relationships with Harrisburg Area Youth and guide them and their families into a relationship with Jesus Christ, while helping them contribute positively in their homes, schools and communities. Medical & Dental Clinics: Bethesda Mission provides excellent medical and dental services to its residents and takes medical referrals from other agencies in the Harrisburg area treating uninsured and under-insured low income persons. Food Bank: Recognizing that poverty and hunger are less visible, yet harder to cure in outlying areas, our Rural Outreach began in late 1996. With over 200 churches and other agencies in counties surrounding Harrisburg, we are able to distribute over 1,500 of bags of food and essential daily household products to hungry and needy individuals and families each month. Mobile Mission: Bethesda Mission’s fully-equipped “Samaritan Service” vehicle is the flagship of our street ministry. The Mobile Mission unit is managed by part-time staff and supported heavily by a committed team of volunteers who bring hope and critical help to Harrisburg’s homeless street population.
