About This Cause
Lancaster County is a thriving community, rich with economic development and strong for-profit, non-profit, healthcare and education sectors. But despite unprecedented growth, our county is home to a troubling poverty rate of nearly 11 percent, with a rate of 26.5 percent in Lancaster City, our county seat, a percentage that is higher than both Philadelphia (25.8 percent) and Pittsburgh (22 percent). CAP is Lancaster County’s largest anti-poverty organization and boasts a service profile that interrupts inter-generational poverty with programs that assist families at every age and place in life. Knowing that poverty is complex and its contributing factors vary, CAP is committed to creating innovative, person-centered initiatives, including social enterprise businesses, to augment our many long-standing and successful anti-poverty programs.
