Mission Statement

Our Mission- ElderNet provides a safety net for older and disabled adults to help them remain in their homes with dignity, and strengthens food and financial security for all community members in need of support. ElderNet’s vision is that older and disabled adults will feel cared for, respected, and connected to our community. Those facing food and financial insecurity will find comfort and resources to meet their basic needs. As a result, no one will feel isolated. ElderNet will continue to be a highly regarded service provider, a place for meaningful volunteer service, and a source of dignity and hope.

About This Cause

ElderNet offers three main programs to those who qualify: Care Management Services, Volunteer Services, and our Community Resource Center and Food Pantry. All of ElderNet’s programs are FREE and run on an on-going basis. Through ElderNet's Care Management Program, two licensed social workers assist residents living in poverty or with low to moderate incomes in multiple aspects. Regular, in-home visits are made to clients in need of support and assistance in accessing benefits such as quality health insurance, SNAP, LIHEAP, PACE/PACENET and many others. Often individuals contact ElderNet at a time of transition or of great need and ElderNet’s compassionate social workers connect them to financial assistance and resources to reduce isolation. ElderNet social workers remain on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with the Lower Merion Township Police Department for when they need assistance with an older adult or encounter a homeless individual in need of shelter. All ElderNet social workers (including the Executive Director) serve on our Advocacy Committee to help support positive legislation for older adults. This past year, ElderNet engaged in strategic outreach to strengthen our community partners to increase client referrals and ensure that all those in-need in Lower Merion and Narberth are aware of our services. Within ElderNet’s volunteer services is our very unique Escort Driver Program, which provides free, escorted transportation to and from doctor, dentist, vision and other necessary medical visits, such as same day surgery, thus greatly improving older adults' access to healthcare. The “escort” driver waits in the reception room during client appointments. ElderNet volunteers also grocery shop with or for clients who are unable to get to the market or our food pantry. Other volunteer services coordinated through our Volunteer Coordinator are friendly visits, bill and mail sorting for the visually impaired, and collaborative service days with local schools and businesses to assist older adults with home maintenance and other tasks. In 2016, 284 volunteers provided services to those in need. ElderNet’s Community Resource Center and Food Pantry offers a full-choice food pantry to older adults and people of all ages. The food pantry offers perishable and non-perishable nutritious options, as well as vegetables from our own community garden. The Center is staffed with a nurse provided by Bryn Mawr Hospital. An on-site licensed social worker promotes economic security and fights homelessness by providing clients with emergency financial assistance (which is directly paid to a third party), and connecting individuals with resources and benefits. In 2016, 510 people, in 294 households were provided with 7,543 bags of food. Other programs offered by ElderNet include Telephone Reassurance and Lock for Life. In 2016, ElderNet served 2,714 individuals through all of our programs and services.
