Mission Statement
The Children's House is a Child Advocacy Center that offers child-focused, facility-based programs in which representatives from many disciplines work together to conduct interviews and make team decisions on cases of child abuse. The CAC model for child abuse intervention are proven and effective, bringing together trained professionals to investigate and provide medical and mental healthcare as well as support to child victims of abuse, while holding offenders accountable through the court system. The Children's House is child-focused location that is designed to create a sense of safety and security for child victims and to start that path to healing.
About This Cause
The Children's House offers supportive services and community agency collaboration to children who have suffered from sexual and physical abuse. Services are also extended to the non-offending family members to ensure the needs of the child are being met as well as we believe that abuse effects an entire family and they should begin to heal as whole unit. Child victims of sexual and physical abuse and their families have specialized needs that require timely resources and services. The Children's House addresses the emergency needs of these families through, crisis services offered at no cost to the families. These are continued services that are provided to the child and family until they decided they no longer need or require additional services The Children's House provides the following services as part of its CAC program: * Forensic Interviewing Services - In a safe, friendly facility, children speak with a trained forensic interviewer. This interview reduces the number of times a child must retell his or her story of abuse by providing all the investigating and intervening agencies with the appropriate information. * Forensic Medical Evaluations - Child-friendly forensic medical examinations by specially trained nurse practitioners are also available to the child. * Mental Health Screening and Referrals - crisis intervention and suicide screening is done on site - New service added in late 2016 - Child Victims and their families will now have the opportunity to receive free evidence based mental health services on-site through our Trauma Focus - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. * Victim Advocacy/Counseling- child abuse victims and families are provided with compassionate guidance throughout the investigative process and intervention by a Family Advocacy Support Specialist. * Community Education and Outreach - Events throughout the year are designed to raise both awareness and support for serving and protecting our community children. With supportive services and community agency collaboration, Our Child Advocacy Center strives to effectively and efficiently care for the children of our community. In fact, research shows that communities that work off a CAC model, save an estimated $1,000 per case resulting in over $750,000 in savings for our communities since 2008. Between 2015 and 2016 the Children's House has provided more services to child victims of abuse and their families at no out of pocket expense then the first five years combined. On a carefully managed operating budget, the Children's House has provided services to all child victims who were brave enough to share their story. This is important because more than 50% of families that receive services at our center has reported income lower than the federal Poverty level. Our Center is set up so that at no cost to the family, we are able to provide the resources for these children can share their story and our center can help build a healthier community. It is easier to build stronger children than it is to repair broken adults. In 2016 our Advocate provide more than 388 families with direct services, our forensic medical services increase by 50%, children are getting immediate mental health services at the CAC and are not put on a wait-list, and our forensic interview services seen 42% more children in 2016 than in the previous years. Money raised will be used to ensure that every child who needs our specialized services (forensic medical, forensic interviewer, advocacy/counseling, evidenced based mental health) has access to them free of charge.
