Mission Statement
Enchantment Theatre Company’s mission is to inspire children to dream, explore, think, and connect through imaginative storytelling onstage and in the classroom. We bring stories to life in a way that encourages children to dream about who they are and may become, to explore story from different perspectives, to think using inductive reasoning, and to connect to other people and ideas. Our programs encourage children to question and explore how to live in a complex world so that they grow up healthier, smarter, and kinder.
About This Cause
Enchantment was founded with a commitment to giving children a meaningful first experience with quality theatre, and a philosophy that the best of theatre for children should be judged on the same merits of adult theatre. Based in the heart of Philadelphia, Enchantment is a major theater company for young audiences, touching the lives of more than 100,000 children and their families annually through our national touring productions, Philadelphia main stage productions, in-school arts education programs and our regional art access initiative, Enchantment Everywhere. Our works have been seen in theaters around the world and across the country ranging from sophisticated venues like Lincoln Center and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to rural high schools in North Dakota and Texas. Over 3 million children worldwide have been inspired by Enchantment's productions and programs since 1979. Whether it's our work at home or across the nation, ETC ensures that children are exposed to transformative theatre experiences that inspire, educate and stimulate their creative spirit, particularly in communities whose opportunities to experience the arts are limited. Locally, we provide theatre programming for students in some of our region's most economically-challenged neighborhoods and develop innovative, in-school arts education programming for inner-city schools. Nationally, we introduce millions of children to original and magical world premiere theatre, keeping the arts a part of children's development and fostering the next generation of theatre-goers. Enchantment's work is completely original, based on fairy tales, fables and classic children's literature. This includes the entire production, from the development of the script to the music that is written just for the piece. Our work goes well beyond entertainment; it is designed to inspire, challenge and uplift children. All of the pieces we create remain in our repertoire and return to the stage periodically to delight future generations.
