Mission Statement
Founded in 1980, Wolf Sanctuary of PA is a non-profit rescue, with the goal of providing a safe, loving haven for displaced wolves and wolf-dogs. Originally created as a private rescue, Wolf Sanctuary of PA has grown into an educational facility, offering guided tours for an opportunity to view the wolves and learn about conservation and biology.
About This Cause
In the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch country, quietly secured on 80 plus acres of natural woodland, you will find the home of the Speedwell Wolves. For over 40 years the Darlington Family has offered refuge to wolves and wolf-dogs who have found themselves without a place in the natural world. While some of our wolves were born here years ago, we no longer allow breeding and instead we focus on rescuing wolves and wolf-dogs in need of a home. It is illegal in Pennsylvania and many surrounding states to own wolves or wolf-dogs without proper licenses and permitting obtained from the state and federal governments. The majority of our rescues have been displaced from either household settings or in some cases from other sanctuaries or animal care facilities that could no longer care for them for one reason or another. We are devoted to assuring the most comfortable and stimulating environments for our wolves. Here at Wolf Sanctuary of PA wolves and wolf dogs are given back their dignity. Originally created as a private rescue, Wolf Sanctuary of PA has grown into an educational facility. Through guided tours we seek to tell the true story of the gray wolf in North America and to dispel some of the common myths and misconceptions that drove wolves to near extinction from the continental US in the 1800's and continue to threaten their survival today. The Sanctuary currently provides food, shelter and veterinary care for over forty wolves and wolf-dogs with no government or corporate assistance. Only, by your continued support and interest do the wolves thrive.
