Mission Statement
Art-Reach creates, advocates for and expands accessible opportunities in the arts so the full spectrum of society is served. Art-Reach envisions a world where people with disabilities and from low-income communities have equitable access to the arts. We work with the cultural community to ensure that opportunity exists for all people, and in doing so we lift Philadelphia up to become a national model for cultural accessibility.
About This Cause
Art-Reach was founded in 1986 with a mission to expand cultural participation for people with disabilities by distributing unused theatre tickets. Art-Reach’s work expanded to bring workshops and cultural experiences led by teaching artists to human service agencies whose clients could not travel to the arts. In 2014, Art-Reach launched ACCESS Admission, marking its first citywide public initiative. In 2015, Art-Reach launched ENCORE – one of the most innovative accessible arts program in the country. In 2018, Art-Reach expanded ACCESS to include performing art venues and Access Cardholders can now visit 46 cultural sites for $2. Today, over 185,000 people participate in Art-Reach’s programs annually. Art-Reach has grown to focus its efforts on curated experiences, collaborative initiatives, unified dialogue, training, social change and advocacy for accessibility.
