Mission Statement
We believe everyone has a story to tell, and by sharing our stories we may build a stronger, better world. First Person Arts' mission is to transform the drama of real life into memoir and documentary art to foster appreciation for our unique and shared experiences. Our programs become high-quality artistic catalysts, sparking rich community dialogue around important issues.
About This Cause
First Person Arts (FPA) programming provides a live and broadcast platform for the compelling personal stories that must be told now by artists and everyday people. We produce/present 65 live events per year. True stories generated at our live events are disseminated to a broader audience through more than 255 broadcasts annually on the FPA Podcast, website, YouTube channel and social media. We engage with a combined live and online audience of more than 223,000 annually. Our principal programs are: 1) the annual First Person Arts Festival, the only one of its kind featuring true stories told across multiple genres including: stand-up storytelling, literature, theatre, and dance; 2) twice-monthly StorySlams where members of the audience and curated storytellers share their personal stories in a friendly competition; and 3) Applied Storytelling customized classes, workshops and slams that use storytelling as a vehicle to reveal meaningful truths and insights, especially focusing on giving voice to those who too often go unheard. To honor every story told live at our twice-monthly StorySlams, we upload un-edited versions to our YouTube channel and website. Curated stories from live events and the FPA archives are broadcast on our weekly podcast. The podcast can be found at www.firstpersonarts.org, on iTunes and Stitcher.
