Mission Statement

For over 50 years, the mission of Mobile Medical Care, Inc. (MobileMed) has been to improve the health of low-income people who face the greatest barriers to care access. Our goal is to be a primary care medical home – providing high quality, comprehensive healthcare, delivered in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. Each year our clinical staff plus 50 volunteer physicians, provide over 14,000 medical visits, serving a population of nearly 5,000 low-income adults in Montgomery County, Maryland.

About This Cause

MobileMed's core values include healthcare access for all, quality services provided with compassion and respect, and organizational excellence and integrity. Our commitment to accessibility is achieved through seven fixed site and mobile van locations throughout Montgomery County, Maryland, extensive outreach in collaboration with diverse faith-based and community organizations, availability of walk-in appointments for patients who have unpredictable work schedules or urgent issues, and a policy of never turning anyone away for inability to pay. Our specialty services feature weekly Endocrine and Heart clinics in collaboration with NIH and Suburban Hospital, a weekly women's clinic with primary gynecological care, and weekly podiatry and optometry for diabetic patients. MobileMed serves thousands of patients on Medicaid, Medicare and other and is able to assist individuals in navigating the healthcare system. While individuals often initially come to MobileMed with an acute illness, we offer them a medical home. We provide all patients with a full array of primary care services, including physical examinations, screenings, vaccines, medications, integrated behavioral health, arrangements for diagnostic testing, and referrals to specialty care. A disproportionate number of our patients suffer from multiple chronic diseases; for these individuals, access to disease management services is critical. Regular primary and preventive care can prevent or slow progression of chronic conditions and lead to early diagnosis of serious issues when they are more treatable, improving outcomes and reducing inappropriate use of hospital emergency rooms. MobileMed has impacted the quality of life for thousands of our low-income patients by early diagnosis, treatment and management of their chronic diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension. As part of their regular primary care, we either dispense directly or arrange for no/low-cost medications. In addition to medication, MobileMed proactively helps patients monitor and manage their chronic conditions with consistent care, regular screenings for complications, a coordinated health care plan, support management and oversight, patient education and coaching geared toward self-reliance, and access to specialty care, if necessary. Our case management services include a focus on empowerment, emphasizing lifestyle changes such as nutrition and weight loss, smoking cessation, and exercise. MobileMed’s collaborative relationships with community-based wraparound services enable us to connect patients to complementary resources that they need to be healthier. MobileMed is particularly passionate about patient accessibility and community outreach. As such, we were recently awarded a grant to become a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). We have clinics located throughout Montgomery County in areas of the greatest need and outreach capacity (particularly for hard-to-reach populations). Our strong track record is reflected in our excellent community reputation and the results of our patient satisfaction surveys. In our most recent patient satisfaction survey, 96% of our patients said they were treated respectfully and efficiently. These results correlate to our patients’ high satisfaction with the quality of care and the culturally competent manner in which services are delivered. Being designated an FQHC provides an extraordinary opportunity to expand MobileMed's impact in the community. Even with the ACA, disparities persist in healthcare access and outcomes. MobileMed participates in five managed care programs and has helped hundreds of patients enroll in Medicaid. However, these individuals will still need culturally competent primary care providers to help them navigate the complicated healthcare system. At the same time, tens of thousands of low-income County residents are ineligible for insurance coverage and will continue to rely on local safety net programs. According to Montgomery County DHHS estimates, there will remain at least 50,000 Montgomery County residents without health coverage. Our challenge will be to expand outreach activities to address the healthcare needs of these individuals and to be an accessible provider of choice for Medicaid enrollees. MobileMed is uniquely positioned to do just that.
