Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote actions and fosters understanding to inspire conservation from the Rhododendron Preserve to the Salish Sea region.

About This Cause

We are dedicated to the environmental health of the Salish Sea region. We will leave the legacy of a healthy environment and natural areas for future generations. In partnership with other like-minded organizations we will ensure environmental conservation and the responsible enjoyment of natural areas within the Salish Sea region. We are a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1968 as Mountaineers Foundation. We have added the name "Keta Legacy" to The Foundation name to reflect our core values. This name honors our unique role in preserving critical keta salmon habitat to create a legacy of conservation. Keta is the Latin name for chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta). Since our founding in 1968, we have combined our dedication to conservation and our desire to connect others to healthy ecosystems to form a multi-purpose strategy. These important programs are where we put our mission into action: We proudly steward, preserve, and restore the beautiful 426-acre Rhododendron Preserve on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington State. We work with local schools and community members to offer educational opportunities at the Preserve. We work with donors to acquire land and increase conservation efforts at the Preserve and throughout the Salish Sea region. We also offer a competitive grant program that benefits other qualifying conservation-focused non-profit organizations. We operate with an all-volunteer board and have a rich history of working with amazing donors. We reached our 50 year milestone as a registered 501(c)(3) organization in 2018. Thank you!
