Mission Statement
The Community School of Music and Arts inspires excellence through music and art education to people of all ages and abilities. The School is dedicated to making the arts accessible to all, with each and every program designed to provide the opportunity for meaningful engagement in the arts to those who would otherwise have no access.
About This Cause
CSMA celebrates 57 years of service to the arts in Northern California and is one of the largest community arts schools in the country. The School reaches nearly 30,000 students annually through the following programs: 1. Preschool Programs - CSMA serves children ages 2-5 with art and music programs on campus and at three off-site preschools in the Mountain View Whisman School District. Financial aid is available for the onsite program. The off-site programs are offered at three state-funded preschools, providing free arts education to approximately 150 children. State-funded preschool programs exist in high-poverty areas to give disadvantaged children a strong beginning in their education. CSMA’s weekly classes offer preschool children a stimulating, hands-on introduction to art and music while laying a strong foundation for their social, emotional, and intellectual development. 2. Art4Schools and Music4Schools programs provided weekly, stands-based curriculum taught by professional art and music educators to over 22,000 students at more than 50 schools in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. CSMA provides subsidies to under-resourced schools. Over 46% of the schools served are predominantly low-income. 3. The Music School provides on-site private lessons in over 20 instruments, classes, and workshops. Financial aid is offered to students in need, and merit scholarships are provided to outstanding music students who perform free outreach concerts in the community. 4. The Art School provides a professional art studio environment for students to develop technical skills in a wide variety of media, including drawing, watercolor, painting, and ceramics. The School also offers art camps. Financial aid for classes and camps is available to those in need. 5. The Artistic Intelligence Program is a collaboration with the Morgan Autism Center, AbilityPath, and the Adult Transition Program at Mountain View Los Altos School District. The program delivers tailored arts and music education to approximately 100 neurodivergent individuals, ages 14-80, and offers generous subsidies to ensure all participants have access to the arts. 6. Corporate Programs: Engages over 1,000 employees from local tech companies in music lessons and art classes during their workday. 7. The Community Concert series & Gallery Exhibits bring free, world-class performances to the general public, and free art exhibits showcase emerging and established visual artists that represent the community and encourage community engagement.
