The Tucson Botanical Gardens connects people with plants and nature through art, science, history and culture. An urban oasis, it is located in the heart of Tucson on the historic Porter Family property. Over 100,000 people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds visit each year, including schoolchildren and families. The Gardens has the only tropical butterfly and orchid pavilion in Arizona. About This Cause
Planted by One, Nurtured by Many. Nearly 50 years ago a small group of individuals came together to form the Tucson Botanical Gardens. Ten years later, the former home of the Porter Family became the Gardens permanent home – a world class collection of cactus, pants, grasses, flowers and trees – a desert oasis in a heart of Tucson. Today the Tucson Botanical Gardens thrives in the heart of Tucson. It has become a much beloved cultural treasurer in our City, attracting both residents of the greater metropolitan areas as well as tourists. Located on nearly 6 acres, the Garden is home to 17 different gardens, a collection of over 5,400 plants. The Tucson Botanical Gardens is operated through its admissions, gift shop sales, facility rentals as well as the through the generosity of its members, private family foundations and with the support of local businesses. The Gardens does not receive city, county or state funding. A “living” museum, the Tucson Botanical Gardens documents the history of gardening in the Tucson Basin; few public gardens in our nation’s urban centers chronicle anything as profound or meaningful to the community.
