Baxter Community Center seeks to respond to human needs in its community through effective programs and partnerships.
About This Cause
Baxter Community Center runs a high-quality child development center for ages six-weeks up to five years old, which operates on a sliding fee scale to ensure that it is accessible to all our neighbors. Our Marketplace food and clothing pantry provides free fresh produce, shelf-stable dry goods, diapers, and more to those in need. The Wholistic Health Center offers affordable, high-quality medical and dental care to adult as well as pediatric patients, regardless of insurance status. We have an on-site greenhouse and raised bed gardens, which provide fruits and vegetables to the Marketplace and Child Development Center kitchen. Through partnerships with Friends of Grand Rapids Parks and the City of Grand Rapids, we provide free yoga, Zumba, and exercise boot camp classes in Joe Taylor Park through the summer. In the fall, we offer canning classes to teach participants how to preserve fresh fruits and vegetables into jams, pickles, relishes, and sauces.
