Mission Statement
The Morgan State University Foundation, Inc. is a separately incorporated non-profit organized for the purpose of promoting the growth, progress, and general welfare of Morgan State University.
About This Cause
The Foundation was established in 1971 as a 501c3 not-for-profit corporation to advance the University’s mission of teaching, research, and community outreach by raising and managing private funds for scholarships, faculty, research, facilities, and academic programs. Since 1867, Morgan State University (Morgan) has been an essential part of the higher education system in Baltimore City, the State of Maryland, and the nation. Legislatively designated as Maryland’s Preeminent Public Urban Research University, Morgan serves a multi-ethnic and multi-racial student body, ensuring that a broad segment of the population reaps the benefits of higher education. In terms of enrollment, Morgan is the largest Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Maryland and among the largest nationwide. The University ranks number one among all HBCUs in producing Fulbright Scholars, with 149 Fulbright-related grants awarded. Morgan is also the only university to have its entire campus designated as a National Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. We are additionally proud to be considered among the top 25 Best Colleges and Universities for Hispanics and Women by Hispanic Network and Professional Women’s magazines. Furthermore, of particular note, an independent study found Morgan to have a $1B economic impact on the State of Maryland and $574M in Baltimore City.
