Mission Statement

IBA - Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción empowers and engages individuals and families to improve their lives through high-quality affordable housing, education, and arts programs.

About This Cause

Established in 1968, IBA is a non-profit organization whose original mission focused on addressing the displacement of low-income Puerto Rican families due to urban development in the South End neighborhood of Boston. Over the past half-century, IBA has grown into a dynamic Community Development Corporation that cultivates and preserves culturally diverse affordable housing communities and provides low-income residents with opportunities to reach their full potential through innovative programmatic offerings. Apart from developing the Villa Victoria (Victory Village) community and securing 521 units of affordable housing, IBA administers six community programs: Resident Services, Early Education (4 month to 5.2 years), Afterschool & Summer Learning, Youth Development, Financial Empowerment, and Arts Program. Annually, these programs serve approximately 825 low-income people, while over 6,000 people from throughout New England attend our arts events. IBA is a national model for the integration of affordable housing with comprehensive, culturally responsive and bilingual (English/Spanish) programming strengthened by social supports.
