About This Cause
Founded in 1972, San Diego Dance Theater (SDDT) is a 501(c)(3) professional dance company that has enriched San Diego’s cultural landscape for over five decades through dynamic performances, community engagement, and dedicated training for emerging and professional dancers. SDDT has earned a reputation for bold, unconventional programming and a deep commitment to inclusion—expanding access to the stage for dancers of diverse nationalities, races, ages, and physical abilities. Under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Terry Wilson, the company honors its legacy while entering an exciting new chapter centered on growth, curiosity, diversity, and optimism. We are widely recognized for our innovative cross-border collaborations, the annual site-specific event Trolley Dances, and transformative summer workshops. Our community outreach and education programs bring dance into schools and underserved neighborhoods, while our professional development offerings—including master classes, choreographic residencies, and performance opportunities—support dancers at every stage of their careers. Through these efforts, SDDT remains a vital force in building a more connected, expressive, and inclusive dance community.
