Mission Statement
The ARK is a multi-service social service agency. Our mission is to provide quality medical and social services for the physical and social well-being of the client/patient of The ARK. Equally important, The ARK provides members of the community a place to act upon their concern for humanity. Nearly 300 volunteers, from physicians, dentists and lawyers to schoolchildren and retirees, drive our organization and help us provide a comprehensive array of services to the more than 3,700 people who turn to us each year. Last but not least, it is The ARK’s mission that all ARK services be given in a spirit of loving-kindness, preserving the dignity of each individual, and be available to any human being without regard to race, color, creed, gender or country of national origin.
About This Cause
The ARK is a not-for-profit, community-funded health and human services agency with facilities on Chicago’s North Side and in Northbrook. For over 40 years, our mission has been to provide a safety net of vital human services for families and individuals in need in the Chicago metropolitan area, and to build bridges between volunteers and those in need. Our services include medical, dental and eye care, pharmaceutical assistance, rent and utility assistance, food, transitional housing, legal aid, job search assistance, benefits advocacy, case management, psychological therapy and testing, a day program for the chronically mentally ill, and more. Our primary goals are to stabilize our clients’ situations and, using The ARK’s wide array of services and those of other community agencies, assist them in achieving the highest degree of self-reliance possible given their unique circumstances. Each year, The ARK serves nearly 4,000 low-income people from throughout the Chicago metropolitan area. In order to fulfill that part of our mission of providing an opportunity for members of the community to care for and help others, The ARK delivers our services with a small staff plus a corps of nearly 300 regular and 2,500 one-time volunteers. Our volunteers range from physicians, lawyers and dentists to school children and retirees, and donate more than 18,000 hours each year.
