About This Cause

Established in 1972, Project for Pride in Living, Inc. (PPL) is nonprofit organization committed to working with lower-income individuals and families to achieve greater self-sufficiency through housing, employment training, support services, and education. Programs are offered across four core areas: • Affordable Housing: Creates, renovates, manages, and preserves single and multi-family housing for low-income individuals and families, and for those facing additional barriers to housing stability. • Economic Advancement: Offers employment training, professional development workshops, and financial coaching to help individuals achieve economic stability. • Support Services: Provides a continuum of integrated, onsite services that help residents set goals, find resources, and build the skills necessary to gain and sustain self-sufficiency. • Youth Achievement: Fosters academic and personal achievement for youth of all ages through top-notch schools, mentor-driven afterschool programs, and summer activities. PPL has won a number of national honors including a Sustained Excellence Award from the Fannie Mae Foundation and a MetLife Neighborhood Revitalization Award. The organization has also been recognized locally. In 2012, the Minnesota Workforce Development survey coordinated by Philanthropedia ranked PPL #2 out of 18 organizations that help people gain the skills they need to reach economic stability and access job training opportunities. In 2013, PPL was selected by Local Initiatives Support Corporation and the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers for the Community Development “Hall of Fame.” Who We Serve PPL serves low-income people who live throughout the Twin Cities region, with concentrations in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and several suburbs. Our diverse participants include a substantial number of immigrants. Participant incomes are regularly below 200% of the federal poverty level. (Poverty is defined as $23,850 annually for a family of four.) Last year, PPL served 13,111 people.
