Mission Statement

The ACLU is our nation's guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and laws of the United States guarantee everyone.

About This Cause

The ACLU works in the courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to all people in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States. The ACLU of Arizona have identified the following key civil liberties issues -- immigrants' rights, LGBTQ equality, sentencing reform, and educational equity -- because they address compelling needs in the state of Arizona, and are of great importance to communities statewide and to our mission. We also have identified these issues because they engage every level of the organization and require pro-active advocacy over the next three years that we believe will deliver the greatest impact and help us build the political power necessary to energize the fight for civil liberties and protect our wins for years to come. ACLU will continue its important work in the many other key areas for which we are most well-known and for which we've made long-standing commitments to defend throughout our history. Our commitment to the First Amendment, voting rights, reproductive rights, prisoners' rights, the elimination of the death penalty, religious liberty, and other important issues, remains unwavering and will, as always, be present in the daily efforts of the staff. The priorities we identify here are not designed to replace that work, which often occurs in response to events that occur in the community, but rather to help channel our efforts to engage proactively on issues where we can deliver the greatest impact.
