Mission Statement
Seattle Counseling Service is a community resource that advocates, educates and serves to advance the social well-being and mental health of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community.
About This Cause
Seattle Counseling Service Programs SCS offers comprehensive mental health care and addiction services focusing in the following areas: Mental Health Counseling SCS provides an array of mental health services for members of the LGBT community and their significant others. We help individuals and families with everything from single episode to mild to severe persistent mental illness. Treatment is tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual, drawing from a variety of treatment approaches with the option of on-site psychiatric medication management when applicable. Addiction Services SCS offers a complete chemical dependency outpatient treatment program. We can help you recover from your addiction to alcohol or drugs in an atmosphere free from homophobia, prejudice, fear, ignorance and heterosexism. We believe that in order to get the best treatment for chemical dependency, you must have a space in which you feel safe enough to be completely honest and secure in not being judged for your sexuality and gender expression. Project NEON (Needle and Sex Education Outreach Network) is an HIV-prevention program for gay, bi and trans men affected by crystal methamphetamine. The program is geared towards men who are actively using as well as those in recovery. NEON's philosophies are rooted in the concept of harm reduction and the belief that all individuals are capable of making life-enhancing decisions, regardless of their drug use. Therefore, we support informed choice based on accurate and truthful education. LGBT Undocumented and Immigrant/Refugee Outreach Project (UIRO) This project, rolled out in May of 2015, was created to learn about and provide outreach to immigrants and refugees who identify as LGBTQ. The project aims to build relationships with community partners who are currently serving this population; to gain knowledge about barriers to care for these individuals; and to share expertise in order to better integrate these individuals and their families into Seattle's healthcare delivery service. Our goal with this project is to contribute to research that helps our agency and others better understand the LGBTQ immigrant population's needs, barriers to care and ways that we can use collaborative relationships to decrease those barriers.
