About This Cause

Since 1952, United Way of Bourbon County has conducted an annual campaign to support many area organizations that fulfill the requirements to truly help our community. This year’s campaign will provide financial support to fifteen local non-profit organizations. Giving to the United Way insures that these wonderful organizations already doing effective work in our community will continue to have the resources they need. We can think of no better way to reach out for help than to share some of what we know about these organizations: We know that the Bourbon County 4-H Fair has annual expenses that exceed their income, that the Bourbon County Inter-Agency Coalition Board provides season passes to the Aquatic Center and that United Way funding to Bourbon County Senior Citizens pays one half of the cost of meal preparation for Meals on Wheels. We know that Care to Share/The Sharing Bucket provides Caring and Sharing for cancer survivors, their families and their caregivers through 100% volunteers, that the Fort Scott Ministerial Association/Hospitality Fund works with the police department to aid stranded transients in reaching their destination and that Kansas Legal Services provides legal advice, representation and assists in obtaining restraining orders for victims of domestic abuse and violence. We know that the Keyhole Youth Center offers activities and provides a safe, Christian environment for students after school, that KS Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bourbon County provides children facing adversity with one-to-one relationships with a Big and that Mother to Mother Ministry of Bourbon County, KS is in their 17th year of providing assistance with basic needs to low income families. We know that a $50.00 gift to My Father’s House Community Services–Fort Scott Outreach Center can provide a weeks’ worth of quality lunches for 20 men, women and children, that Safehouse Crisis Center provides emergency shelter for many domestic violence victims and that Southeast Kansas Respite Services takes care of caregivers so that they can continue taking care of their loved ones, at home. We know that a $50.00 gift to The Salvation Army Service Extension provides a pair of glasses for a child struggling to see a book, that Tri-Valley Developmental Services provides employment, day and residential services, transportation and horticultural therapy to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and that United Cerebral Palsy offers financial aid and assistance in selecting technology or medical equipment for people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. United Way is the single, best way to make a positive difference in the lives of so many people in our community. Your donation changes lives by helping the young and old, poor and disabled, and those facing economic hardships.
