Mission Statement
To foster the independence and dignity of homebound seniors in Montgomery County, TX by providing them with nutritious meals, transportation and caring connections
About This Cause
Our organization was founded in 1973 to meet the growing needs of the aging population. We have grown from a small grass-roots operation based in Conroe to an organization delivering nearly 300,000 meals and providing nearly 18,000 rides to local seniors and those with disabilities annually. Whether it is from physical limitations, mental complications, or dwindling finances, many seniors become homebound as they age. Daily tasks, such as grocery shopping and preparing meals, become impossible. Meals on Wheels Montgomery County exists to improve the lives of these homebound seniors. We help our aging neighbors remain well nourished, connected to the community, and independent within the comfort of their own home. Each week Meals on Wheels volunteers and staff deliver approximately 5000 lunches to homebound seniors in Montgomery County. These deliveries also serve as a safety check and social visit – often the highlight of the senior’s day. As we continue to grow, new programs are created to better serve homebound seniors, including: Breakfast Bags and Senior Meal Bags – non-perishable meals to supplement fresh lunches. aniMeals – dog and cat food, delivered to nourish seniors’ furry companions. Veterinary care and spay/neuter services are provided at no cost to the senior. Each month new seniors are added to service, yet demand continues to increase. People are living longer, 40% of baby boomers have no retirement savings, and 12,000 adults are turning 60 every day. MOWMC has a successful track record of nourishing local seniors, and the need is evident with a constant Waitlist. Today, we rely on support from hundreds of volunteers, thousands of donors, and dozens of businesses to serve more seniors and meet the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors.
