Mission Statement

The Bradford County Humane Society is an animal welfare organization whose fundamental mission is to alleviate and prevent pain and suffering among animals and to promote the humane treatment of all living things. The Humane Society works to achieve its mission by operating a shelter for abandoned, unwanted and abused animals, by investigating and taking action on reports of cruelty to animals, and by educating the public on the needs and behavior of animals so as to prevent neglect and cruelty from happening in the first place.

About This Cause

Bradford County Humane Society was chartered in 1960 as a shelter for lost, abandoned, abused and unwanted animals. Bradford County Humane Society currently takes in about 1,000 dogs and cats each year, and has operated as a no kill shelter (93% live release) since 2012. With a capacity for 25 dogs and 75 cats, the shelter relies upon partners in the community to move animals into new loving homes with minimal delay. Each animal is a separate case and a new puzzle piece to place in the proper home. Bradford County Humane Society also aggressively seeks the owners of lost cats and dogs networking online with community partners online to get lost animals home. Bradford County Humane Society shelters all the stray dogs in Bradford and Sullivan Counties and receives abused pets from law enforcement pending legal cases. Bradford County Humane Society is a member of Bradford County's COAD (County Organization Against Disaster) and a United Way Agency.
