LYRIC STAGE COMPANY OF BOSTON INC

Boston, Massachusetts, 02116-5169 United States

Mission Statement

Founded in 1974, the Lyric Stage Company of Boston is the city’s oldest resident theatre company. It produces and presents live theater in Greater Boston with an intimate approach that promotes inclusivity and connection. The Lyric Stage leads an effort to integrate live theater and theater education into the lives of all residents of Greater Boston.

About This Cause

The goal of Lyric Stage is to build an audience interested in a wide range of theatrical forms, from classics to new works, including small plays and Broadway-style musicals reimagined for the Lyric Stage’s modest playing space. The Lyric Stage also seeks to be the home for Boston’s best and emerging theatrical artists, exclusively hiring local talent, and engaging in initiative like StageSource’s Line Drawn pilot program, creating consistently safer and more creative rehearsal room standards. Its strategic plan calls for producing more world premieres by Boston-based playwrights, creating a platform to export theatrical art nationwide. Lyric Stage serves the City of Boston through its suite of educational initiatives, including City Stage, Lyric Back Stage and Lyric First Page. Respectively, these programs place teaching artists into Boston Public Schools to support existing literacy curriculum; introduce Boston-area youth to theatrical art and theatrical jobs; and create a platform for student playwrights. Through Lyric For All, Lyric Stage reduces or eliminates financial barriers for attending professional live theatre, particularly with residents of affordable housing, including the five properties that Beacon Communities owns and/or manages adjacent to Lyric Stage, including 140 Clarendon Street.
