Mission Statement
Special Olympics Tennessee is a year-round sports training and competition program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. 19 sports are offered throughout the state over the course of the year. Local/area programs are run by volunteer management teams who recruit, train and conduct local competitions for special athletes. More than 12, 000 Tennessee citizens with intellectual disabilities are served each year by 3,000+ volunteers. Special Olympics is a world-wide organization offering sports, health, and leadership training activities in an effort to make local communities in which we live more inclusive and accepting of those with all types of disabilities.
About This Cause
To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
