Mission Statement
HKC protects, promotes, and preserves greater KC’s historic places. Through advocacy and education, we bring people and organizations together to influence the future of KC’s historic buildings and neighborhoods.
About This Cause
HKC, founded in 1974, is dedicated to the preservation of Kansas City’s historic built environment. The non-profit corporation, through advocacy and education programs, seeks to demonstrate the economic, environmental, and cultural value of preserving historic resources. By making preservation relevant to the broader community, drawing on preservation’s demonstrated strengths, bolstering existing programs, and creating new mechanisms, HKC seeks to protect valuable resources; lead and coordinate the processes involved in this protection. HKC seeks to make preservation a part of conventional wisdom. That preservation becomes commonplace in the community's everyday thinking. HKC must win the publics' hearts and then keep the preservation challenge at the forefront of people’s minds. The task is never-ending.
