Mission Statement
Serving the community since 1928, saving lives and property through fire suppression, emergency medical services and public awareness of fire prevention and home safety.
About This Cause
The citizens of the City of Fairfax and neighboring communities in Fairfax County are provided fire, rescue, and emergency medical services through a combination department that comprises the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department (FVFD) and the City of Fairfax Fire Department. This fully integrated department includes both fully trained volunteer and career firefighters and paramedics working together to provide timely and efficient services to the citizens we serve. As described below, this joint effort also saves the citizens of the City substantial tax dollars each year. Operating from two fire stations, the FVFD operates an engine, truck, rescue engine, foam unit, and three advanced life support units. All of these fire and rescue vehicles, with a total original cost of over $4.2 million, were acquired with citizen donations collected through two annual fund raisers, funds received from the United Way, Combined Federal Campaign, state grants, and weekly bingo. In addition, the FVFD owns Fire Station 403. This facility was fully renovated in 1996, through the joint efforts of taxpayers, the City of Fairfax and other supporters.
