Loudoun Therapeutic Riding empowers and improves the lives of people with cognitive, physical and psychological disabilities through the benefits of equine-assisted activities and therapies.
About This Cause
Loudoun Therapeutic Riding is the oldest therapeutic riding program in Virginia. Founded in 1974, our mission is to connect individuals with physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges to the healing power of horses. While our name includes the word “riding,” our program is far more complex. Through varied equine-assisted activities, our mission is to help individuals become stronger, resilient and independent. Children with autism build communication skills. Veterans reduce symptoms of PTSD. Those with physical disabilities become stronger. Seniors retain strength and independence. LCPS special education students learn job skills. Annually, about 350 adults and children ages 4 to 88 benefit from equine assisted activities provided by Loudoun Therapeutic Riding.
