Mission Statement

The misson of the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation (FAIC), formerly known as Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, is to save cultural heritage for future generations, protecting it from decay and destruction. We advance research and education, lead treatment and collection care initiatives, and deploy conservation expertise to where it is most urgently needed. Our work empowers conservation professionals, strengthens cultural institutions, and engages stakeholders, including public audiences, as we work together to protect cultural heritage for humanity.undertakes and underwrites programs and initiatives to advance the conservation profession nationally and internationally in all its facets and applies the expertise of the profession in addressing global artistic, cultural, and historic preservation priorities.

About This Cause

For over 30 years, the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation (formerly know as the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works) has been supporting conservation education, research, and outreach activities that increase understanding of our global cultural heritage. FAIC promotes the advancement of expert knowledge of materials and technologies, and mastery of conservation and preservation. We promote the understanding of the values and contexts of cultural heritage and stress informed decision-making in conservation. We are dedicated to service in the field, research, sharing knowledge, and continued education. Key programs include professional development courses and scholarships; emergency preparation and response for cultural collections; education and web resources for small and mid-sized collections; conservation assessments; web and print publications; and research.
