Mission Statement

The mission of East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) is to promote and sustain healthy communities families and individuals by providing accessible, person-centered, compassionate, high-quality health care services to all who live and work in our service area, regardless of ability to pay while upholding diversity, equity, and inclusion in the core of all that we do.

About This Cause

Since our founding in 1970, EBNHC has provided care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the residents of Chelsea, Revere, East Boston, Winthrop, Everett, and surrounding towns, while continuously expanding our services based on the needs of the community. In July of 2020, we merged South End Community Health Center into East Boston and, in addition to South End residents, we now serve members of the Roxbury, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain and nearby communities. We are the leading health care provider in our service area and among the largest community health centers in the country, currently serving over 100,000 registered patients, with an average of over 320,000 visits annually. EBNHC is recognized as a National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home and a Boston Globe Top Places to Work organization for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021and 2022; our Integrated HIV Services Department (Project SHINE) was recognized in 2019 by Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar as a leading-edge provider of HIV prevention, screening and treatment services; in 2012 our newly built flagship clinic was certified as a LEED building; in 2010 our Urgent Care Department (now a fully equipped Emergency Room) was designated as a Satellite Emergency Facility and a Baby Safe Haven. In 2023, we redesigned our Emergency Department into a state of the art facility that includes a CT-scan machine and point of contact ultrasound. The health center operates the fourth largest Emergency Room in Boston. In October of 2023, we opened a Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center to redefine patient care by providing services that matter in a setting where people are treated with dignity and respect. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), our purpose is to provide comprehensive primary care services to lower-income and underserved populations. Our services include more than 40 clinical, non-clinical, and specialty services including, and not limited to: Primary Care, Diagnostic Laboratory, 24/7 State of the Art Emergency Department, Radiology, Adult Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Women’s Health, Pediatric and Adult Dental, 340B Pharmacy, Substance Abuse Services, Program of All inclusive Care for the Elderly (Neighborhood PACE), Case Management, Interpreter Services, Integrated Behavioral Health Services, Psychiatry, Tuberculosis Clinic, Podiatry, two School Based Health Centers (at East Boston High School and the Blackstone K-6 School in the South End), WIC, Vision/Optical, Endocrinology, Pulmonology, Dermatology, ENT, Sports Medicine, Gastroenterology, Patient Services, and Transportation.
