Mission Statement
As a nonprofit organization, Adventure Cycling Association's mission is to inspire and empower people to travel by bicycle. Established in 1973 as Bikecentennial, we are the premier bicycle-travel organization in North America with more than 40 years of experience and 50,000 members.
About This Cause
Adventure Cycling's Programs: Routes and Maps - We research and produce cycling maps for the Adventure Cycling Route Network, one of the largest cycling route networks in the world at 45,003 miles and growing. We are also the lead organization working to create an official U.S. cycling route network, the U.S. Bicycle Route System. Once complete, it will be the largest official cycling route network on the planet. Guided Tours - Every year we lead more than 100 guided tours, including self-contained, inn-to-inn, van-supported, fully-supported, Family Fun, and educational tours. Adventure Cyclist Magazine - We publish 9 issues of the award-winning Adventure Cyclist magazine for our members annually. Membership - Adventure Cycling members receive Adventure Cyclist magazine, discounts on our maps, and other great benefits. Learn more about membership and join today. Online Store - Our Cyclosource store features our world-class cycling route maps and the best in bike-travel gear. Building Bicycle Tourism - Our Travel Initiatives department works to improve bicycle travel conditions by advocating for better roads, more trails, bicycle travel friendly communities and multi-modal connections. We work in partnership with Amtrak, the National Park Service, state parks, and tourism and economic development agencies. We also provide technical assistance to state and local non-profit partners and state departments of transportation to coordinate and develop the U.S. Bicycle Route System. How To Resources - We provide a variety of trip-planning resources for bicycle travelers such as the annual Cyclists' Travel Guide, which appears in the April issue of Adventure Cyclist, an extensive How To Department, Touring Gear and Tips blog posts, and how-to videos. Our BikeOvernights.org website offers inspiration and how-to tips for 1-2 night bicycle trips. Online Communities - Read our blog for organizational updates, route news, touring tips, and more. Our Forums provide space to ask questions and get replies from experienced bicycle tourists. Bike touring and blogging? Add your blog (and follow others) at BicycleTravelBloggers.org! We are on many social-media channels as well.
