Mission Statement

Columbus Literacy Council (CLC) is a dynamic and innovative agency providing services to individuals, families, and neighborhoods across Central Ohio. Our mission is to increase employability, enable future education, encourage civic involvement, and promote family stability and support. For the last 51 years, CLC has been a steady and effective presence in our community, implementing new and creative strategies to ensure Central Ohio neighborhoods and their residents are continually moving forward.

About This Cause

Columbus Literacy Council (CLC) began in 1970 when Church Women United organized and trained literacy volunteers to assist Asian and Greek immigrants in learning English and preparing for citizenship. Over the past 51 years, CLC has been a steady and effective presence in our community using interdisciplinary approaches to improve the capacity of underserved, at-risk populations. With a focus on excellence, coordinated care, equity and relationship-based case management, CLC offers a spectrum of services from pre-K - adults and seeks to engage, empower, educate and elevate those we serve. Current programming includes Family Literacy, ESOL, Adult Basic Education, Citizenship, Financial Literacy, MARVEL*US Summer Camp, MARVEL*US Afterschool (Learning Extension Center), Workplace Literacy, Internships/On-the-Job Training/Work Experiences, Life Skills, Youth Development and Literacy, and Health Literacy. Currently, CLC offers programming at 12 different sites in Central Ohio. In addition, CLC operates a full-time Tutoring Center at our main office in Downtown Columbus to provide students with increased learning opportunities.
