Mission Statement
The Council/R.S.V. P is a non-profit, non-sectarian and non-political organization that coordinates programs, public and private, which promote and safeguard the independence and well-being of Senior Citizens of Mecosta, Osceola, and Lake Counties, in the State of Michigan. The Mecosta County on Aging/ Retired Senior Volunteer Program is Part of the Senior Corps National Service Program that was put in place in 1969 to provide opportunities for seniors aged 55 and older to serve in the community for Mecosta, Osceola and Lake Counties. Volunteering has been said to be the "secret ingredient" to staying healthy and fulfilled. Giving back is not only good for you, but it also makes a difference to others. R.S.V.P. has been in operation for over 50 years
About This Cause
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program- RSVP invites older adults, age 55 and over to use their life skills to answer the call of their neighbors in need. RSVP recruits and places seniors as volunteers in many non-profit agencies in Mecosta, Osceola and Lake Counties. Each RSVP volunteer chooses the type of service, the amount of time spent and the schedule most convenient for them. With a variety of work sites, and needs in Mecosta, Osceola and Lake County, every volunteer can choose the activities particularly suited to their talents and skills. Volunteer Opportunities are Transportation, Tutors of Adults and Children Museum Guides, Tourist Centers, Hospital and Health Care Providers, Knit and Crochet for donations, Libraries, Friendly Visitor and Companionship, staffing American Red Cross Blood Drives, Meal Sites, Meal Delivery, Senior Centers, United way Campaign, Schools-Head Starts, Preschools, Nursing homes, Food and Clothing Pantries, Tax Preparation Assistance, Shopping, banking and Prescriptions, Sheriff Posse and Sheriff's Office, Dept of Public Safety ....Just to name a few...
