Mission Statement

A non-profit organization founded in 1974, Historic Hawaii Foundation is dedicated to helping people save historic places. Our mission is defined in three goals: To preserve and encourage the preservation of historic buildings, structures, objects, sites and districts relating to the history of Hawai‘i; To promote awareness of and respect for all that is historically significant and architecturally distinctive in our State; and To keep alive and intact for the enrichment of present and future generations the inherent beauty of the Hawaiian Islands and its unique historic role in the development of the Pacific Basin.

About This Cause

Historic Hawaii Foundation is the only entity in the Islands offering preservation assistance statewide. Its services focus on these core areas: EDUCATION: By engaging the general public and members in a variety of unique programs that tell the stories of all time periods, people and places, including tours, talks and publications, we nurture deeper connection with historic places and support for protecting them. ADVOCACY: Through active involvement in legislation, consultations, and other public processes, Historic Hawaii Foundation spearheads consistent advocacy for the protection of historic and sacred places. We engage the public in opportunities to comment and help minimize adverse effects on historic places. ASSISTANCE: Through education programs and direct assistance, we provide people across the state access to tools and funding that enable them to protect places in their own communities. Through these efforts, Historic Hawaii Foundation promotes a public ethic of preserving places as essential elements of thriving communities.
