About This Cause
Facets is a pioneering Chicago nonprofit and a leader in media exhibition, distribution, and education since 1975. We exist because film is one of the most important modes of contemporary cultural production. By better understanding film, we can better understand how our media-saturated culture works. Our goal is to create meaningful democratic dialogue about the role of film in our society and daily lives. We enact our mission in three ways. (1) Watch: We provide access to over 50,000 films, spanning the medium’s varied history and formats, from VHS to streaming. (2) Learn: We use film as a fun and engaging way to teach imaginative problem solving and critical thinking to over 15,000 kids, adults, and educators annually. (3) Collaborate: We work with independent filmmakers, thinkers, and doers from all over the world, and currently provided exhibition and distribution channels for over 3,400 independent films annually.
