About This Cause
The Danville Area Community Center is a 37-year-old, 100% community funded facility dedicated to promoting health, recreation, fitness, education, and overall wellness. The DACC has a wide range of fitness classes, spinning, Power Over Parkinson's, Silver Sneakers, a competitive swimming and lap pool, exercise equipment, free weights, racquetball, pickleball and more. Overall, we strive to foster physical fitness, social connections, and personal growth. For school-aged children, we currently offer before and after school programming in the Danville Area School District, a Summer Day Camp for children, and The Rivertown Nature School and various STEM education opportunities designed to slow the 'summer slide' and bolster kids' movement and education. I've attached a news release that further explains the Rivertown Nature School, which has been underway for several years. We have numerous other programs and activities for children and young adults. Many young people attend our ‘Minds at Easel,’ program, which is a weekly art and expression gathering for students 6-12, it is an emotional well-being club after school. We also operate 'The DACC at the Knack' in downtown Danville which is dedicated to art, cooking, children’s day camps, workshops and other activities for adults and children. Families 'on the margin' are welcome here: No one is turned away from the DACC or The Knack. If an individual or family wishes to use our facility, and does not have the ability to pay, their participation is funded by 'sponsorships,' paid for by local donors. We operate on a $1.1M annual budget which is funded by members, donations, health insurance reimbursements, and sponsorships from area businesses and individuals. We have five full-time, and up to forty part-time employees (fitness instructors for specific classes and programs). We have utilized grants and gifts from United Way, the Community Giving Foundation, First Community Foundation Partnership, Degenstein Foundation, and numerous local residents and businesses. Our fundraising consists of seeking EITC funding from approved companies, conducting an annual appeal, we have several grant funding requests being considered or pending at PPL, Susquehanna Greenway Partnership, First Community Foundation Partnership, and others. We also hold several fundraising events; a community 5K run/walk, Designer Bag Bingo, holiday raffles, volunteering at Little League World Series and others. The DACC is well used and is ready for an update, so extensive renovations are planned. A Capital Campaign is underway and we have reached over $1.1 million so far. This year we have combined the Capital Campaign and our Annual Appeal into one fundraising push. The letters and opportunities to donate to both, were mailed to members and supporters in mid-October. The public was invited to pledge on Kick-Off Day, and we did receive $27,000 in pledges and contributions on that day.
