Sexual violence can affect anyone. If you are the victim of rape or sexual assault, or want to help someone who has been, Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) is here to help. Our experienced, trained, counselors and advocates provide services that are completely confidential.
About This Cause
Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) was founded in 1972 by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Organization of Women (NOW) in response to a series of rapes. This group of lawyers, health professionals, and activists believed victims of sexual assault should have expert assistance directly following the commission of the crime. During PAAR’s first two years, the organization was membership- and volunteer-driven, providing only a 24-hour hotline and medical and legal advocacy. PAAR is one of the oldest rape crisis centers in the U.S., and the only organization in Allegheny County solely devoted to the issue of sexual violence.
