Service- Engaging consumers HOSPICE OF WARREN COUNTY Organizational Philosophy “You matter because of who you are. You matter to the last moment of your life, and we will do all we can, not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.” -- Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the first modern hospice The hospice philosophy accepts death as the final stage of life: it affirms life but does not try to hasten or postpone death. Hospice care treats the person and symptoms of the disease, rather than treating the disease itself. A team of professionals work together to manage symptoms so that a person’s last days may be spent with dignity and quality, surrounded by their loved ones. Hospice care is also family-centered – it includes the patient and the family in making decisions.(1) Hospice is a health care system of interdisciplinary services provided to patients and their families during the final stage of life. These services are delivered with sensitivity to the fact that, as hospice and palliative professionals, we have entered into people’s lives and affairs during a period of heightened need and potential vulnerability. Hospice of Warren County in collaboration with The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization is an advocate for patients facing the end of life and their families and the voice of hospice and palliative care services. Through its standards, policies and procedures, Hospice of Warren County seeks to promote an ethical corporate culture involving both internal and external relationships. When providing care and collaborating with our community, we follow NHPCO ethical principles of health care. These principles include Autonomy, Beneficence, Conscientious Objection, Nonmaleficence, and Justice.
