Mission Statement
To improve health and wellbeing, Allies for Health + Wellbeing provides integrated medical care, supportive human services, and community-based education for individuals living with, or at risk of HIV, viral hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections.
About This Cause
At Allies, we provide high-quality integrated medical care and supportive services to all in need of inclusive, holistic care, including people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, and sexually transmitted infections. As an LGBTQ+ competent clinic serving over 11 counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania, we focus on removing stigma and reducing barriers to accessing and continuing care. By recognizing our patients’ and clients’ full lived experiences, we build trusting relationships and provide personalized care that considers every individual’s differing circumstances. We are informed by nearly 40 years of experience working within the community, allowing us to offer a comprehensive range of services in a culture of quality and respect. Allies has progressed from an agency (formerly known as the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force) that helped people with AIDS to die with dignity into an organization that provides the region's most comprehensive HIV treatment, care and support services under one roof. Allies delivers HIV support services for more than 700 HIV-positive individuals residing in 11 counties in Pennsylvania, including, Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Somerset, Washington, Westmoreland counties. Our medical clinic provides HIV and hepatitis C specialty care, gender affirming care, gynecology, STI treatment and other health services to over 1,700 patients. As an agency founded in opposition to discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS, we have always striven to create a place where racial, sexual and gender minorities feel welcome, safe, and respected. Stigma, misinformation, and discriminatory efforts to criminalize people living with HIV continue to be entrenched in our society. More Americans continue to inaccurately believe that HIV mostly affects LGBTQ people, over the truth, which is that anyone can contract HIV. We strive to be part of the solution by increasing visibility and acceptance, providing education on the virus and medication for prevention, and offering a myriad of services that address health factors and other social determinants of health. We offer sliding scale fees that match patients’ ability to pay. Patients who cannot afford to pay receive this free care and, if eligible, are assisted with the Medicaid insurance application process. In our last fiscal year, we covered $160,910 in healthcare services and pharmaceuticals for patients who were unable to pay a portion or all of their costs. We are committed to offering free or subsidized care so that money is never a barrier to proper high-quality care.
