Mission Statement

The mission of the Geyer Performing Arts Center is to enrich, serve, and contribute to the community by providing inclusive entertainment and arts education while fostering creativity for all ages. The Geyer Performing Arts Center has enjoyed over 100 years as Scottdale’s premier cultural center, bringing visitors to the area from across all of western Pennsylvania's counties. The theater has a rich and colorful history and is a beacon that regularly brings visitors to Scottdale who also patronize many of the local eateries and other businesses before and after shows.

About This Cause

The Geyer Performing Arts Center is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to the arts and the Scottdale community. The theater's location near the corner of Pittsburgh Street and Broadway makes it a cornerstone of the Scottdale downtown business district. The Geyer Performing Arts Center is one of the most recognizable and historical parts of downtown Scottdale. The theater itself is in a national historic landmark district and is recognized throughout the community for its work to bring visitors and much needed revenue to the downtown main street area. The theater is a major contributor to the community. On any given day, the theater is a flurry of activity. Daily business operations see patrons purchasing tickets for upcoming shows and local vendors and suppliers working with the theater to prepare for upcoming performances. Rehearsals for upcoming performances happen daily for several shows at a time, using all available space. For our youngest performers, parents often opt to stay in town while their children rehearse and will patronize local businesses including eateries and even other community services such as the Scottdale Public Library. On any given day, there could be between 20 to over 100 performers rehearsing in our Scottdale theater. The Geyer Performing Arts Center is actively involved in our community's events as well. We are proud of our home in Scottdale and encourage all of our volunteers and patrons to enjoy and support our community. We work closely with the Scottdale Parks and Recreation Board to put our talents to work to make community events a success. We are a major sponsor of the Children's Area at the fall festival. We open our theater up to patrons to use restrooms and tour the historic theater at all major community events. We partner with the Scottdale Historical Society for downtown tours and walks providing actors and entertainment. We also partner with the Scottdale Parks Commission to help run and promote activities throughout our community, including parades, festivals, etc. The theater is very proud of our work with the youngest in our community. The theater runs a weekly program called the Geyer After-School Program (GASP) which is completely free to all children ages 5 through 18. This program is a free service to the youth of our community to teach them about theater, the arts, and to encourage creativity through singing, dancing, acting, crafts, and more. In addition, the theater runs a summer camp for kids that culminates in a live stage performance for friends and families. The theater's Geyer Choir is a show-choir comprised of local youth of all talent levels who enjoy singing and performing. The choir performs at many local events and for many local groups, including nursing homes and our local community festivals. All of these activities are run by our education department. In an age where schools are cutting more and more arts programs, we believe it is important to provide an outlet for creativity for young students of all ages.
