Mission Statement
The Carlisle Arts Learning Center (CALC) serves and enriches the community by encouraging creativity and self-esteem through exploration and appreciation of the visual arts.
About This Cause
Carlisle Arts Learning Center (CALC) is located in downtown Carlisle in a historic firehouse at 38 W. Pomfret Street. For 25 years, the organization has been committed to enriching and enhancing individual lives, as well as the community as a whole, through the visual arts. It accomplishes these things through education, outreach and exhibitions. EDUCATION: Each year hundreds of children and adults participate in classes, summer camps, after school programs, festivals, lectures and open studios. Through these classes and programs (which often focus on underserved communities), individuals learn to think creatively and to problem solve. Studies also reveal that self-esteem and confidence increase in those who partake in the visual arts. OUTREACH: CALC's mission is to serve the entire community. The organization is committed to partnering and collaborating with other local non profit organizations to help them raise funds and to enhance and fulfill their missions. Examples of these collaborations include raising thousands of dollars for Project SHARE through the Empty Bowls fundraiser, offering free summer art camps to underserved populations at Hope Station, providing artwork for Sadler Health Care's waiting room, and providing a curated gallery space to showcase Carlisle Area School District student's artwork. CALC has also committed to community engagement and to bringing art INTO the community by developing the CALC Collaborative. This initiative will focus on socially engaged arts and on providing access to the arts for all economic and cultural backgrounds. EXHIBITIONS: CALC is dedicated to providing artists the opportunity to showcase and to sell their work- in the exhibit gallery, the sales gallery, and in off-site locations throughout the Carlisle region. CALC is inclusive of all ages and skill levels when showcasing art. CALC is vital to the energy and health of the community.
