Mission Statement

About the organization: YMIC Foundation, Inc. is a 501 c3 corporation founded in 2007 and designed to support and expose youth in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education. In 2014, YMIC Foundation, Inc. began doing business as (d.b.a.) Young Men and Women In Charge (YMWIC) Foundation, Inc. supporting young men and young women who are economically disadvantaged or underrepresented within the STEM fields.

About This Cause

Programs: Many of the programs are chapter based and support the local community for which the school district resides in. - After School STEM and Leadership Program for 5th – 12th grades. - Academic assistance in math, science and english - Robotics Competition Teams - Science and Technology Expo o Individual Projects for 3rd – 10th o Group Research and Engineering Projects for 11th -12th grades - College Readiness - Job Shadowing - High School and Alumni Internship - Scholarships - Summer Camps and Enrichment: o Girls STEM and Leadership Camp o Elementary School Math and Science Camp o Middle School Science Retreat o High School Engineering and Science o Career Exposure and Readiness projects ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS YMIC d.b.a. YMWIC Foundation, Inc. hosts yearly activities and events during the year. The activities and events are designed to inform the community about STEM and Education opportunities and raise funds, recruit volunteers and promote our scholars for their achievements. - College Expo and Career Day - Holiday Giving Event - Community Outreach and Services - College Tour - Scholarship and Awards Banquet - Scholarship and STEM Golf Classic - Junior Chapter National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Events ACADEMIC SCHOLAR GROUPS YMIC d.b.a. YMWIC Foundation, Inc. offers four academic scholar groups for students in grades five through twelve. The scholar groups are aligned with the YMIC d.b.a. YMWIC Foundation, Inc. mission and are designed to bridge the gap between academic study and the many opportunities offered in STEM fields. Upon acceptance into the program students will be placed into one of the four grade appropriate scholar groups. Scholar Groups Scholar Grades Future Stars 5th and 6th Neptune 7th and 8th Jupiter 9th and 10th Saturn 11th and 12th YMIC d.b.a. YMWIC Foundation, Inc. commits itself to every scholar from the day of enrollment through College Graduation. Each scholar learns the importance in preparedness, accountability and service. Scholars learn to understand that academic preparedness is essential to pursuing a career in STEM. Therefore scholars learn to embrace rigor and seek challenging opportunities within the programs and activities offered during the year. All scholars are required to commit to the foundation and academic excellence. These ideals are enhanced through the scholars’ commitment to the YMWIC Credo. The Credo provides our scholars, parents and stakeholders with a framework for discipline. The Credo I am a Young Scholar in Charge! I am bold and strong. I will banish fear and doubt and I Know that I am not alone in my journey towards success. I am a Young Scholar in Charge! I have accepted the challenge of committing myself to YMWIC Foundation Inc. I understand the importance of being able to draw from my faith and experiences to shape and influence my academics, my relationships and my future as a professional. I am a Young Scholar in Charge! STAKEHOLDERS YMIC d.b.a. YMWIC Foundation, Inc. aims to establish partnering relationships within the communities of the scholars we serve. Our partners share the same goal to educate and expire our youth to pursue academic excellence; particularly in math, science and English. SPONSORS AND DONOR: Sponsors are needed to support and fund academic and enrichment programs. Donors are needed to provide resources to support scholarships, equipment, materials, and projects and ensure sustainability continues during the entire academic experience of each scholar. PARTNERS: Partners provide resources, facilities and support when YMWIC administers academic and enrichment experiences for each scholar. Partners include local school districts, corporations, professional organizations and the committed community. VOLUNTEERS: Our community model depends on the many volunteers who have committed themselves to making an impact in the lives of our scholars. Volunteers bring every element of services to the youth to include but not limited to event planning, administration, fundraising, and tutoring.
