Mission Statement
Our mission at Harlem Mothers & Fathers S.A.V.E is to prolong life among New York City's youth by preventing gun violence and its social causes and cost. This single issue, not-for-profit organization divides its efforts into three areas: Activism, Education and Victim Services.
About This Cause
Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E was formed in 2006 by Co-Founder Jackie Rowe-Adams, with the support of New York State Assemblyman, Keith L. T. Wright. Mrs. Rowe-Adams herself, lost two sons to gun violence. Her first child was affected on February of 1982; her 17 year old son Anthony was murdered outside a bodega at 123rd Street in Harlem by two young men who believed that Anthony had been staring at them. Her second child Tyrone, age 28 at the time, was shot to death by a thirteen-year-old during a robbery outside his apartment in Baltimore, Maryland. We work to remedy the affects of gun violence and promote ways to reduce gun deaths in our community. We educate our community and support our partners and legislations for sensible gun laws. We also perform as advocates or spokespersons for families (with their permissions) in their time of need after a gun incident.
