About This Cause
Discovery Lab opened its new 57,000-square-foot science center next to Tulsa’s Gathering Place Park, providing hands-on and educational exhibits, classes, on-site camps, and a catalog of outreach offerings. Designed to be enjoyed by all ages, Discovery Lab projects impacting over 300,000 visitors each year, including over 40,000 students on field trips and over 30,000 students and families through outreach programs. The museum also serves as the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) Center for Tulsa Public Schools (TPS), providing classroom space, educators, and curriculum to every classroom in pre-k through 5th grade from TPS each year. The educational philosophy of Discovery Lab is centered on employing STEAM and Health and Wellness content to provide opportunities for children to practice process skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving, innovation and creativity, and communication and collaboration. Experiences are primarily self-directed and hands-on in an informal learning setting, and the museum also offers outreach and museum-based classes and camps led by trained education professionals utilizing techniques of open-ended inquiry.
