Mission Statement
Changing lives, strengthening a nation ... one university scholarship at a time.
About This Cause
In Liberia, West Africa, fourteen years of civil war devastated infrastructure and resulted in a critical loss of educated professionals needed for rebuilding. Since 2007 we've been working to change this. Through our university scholarship program, RYHF sponsors talented young Liberian men and women in pursuit of careers identified by Liberian country leaders as most urgently needed for the health and well-being of the people and the economic future of the country. Candidates for our programs are students living in extreme poverty, selected for strong academic performance and clear goals/commitment for using their chosen profession in service to their nation. All scholarship recipients attend universities, community colleges, and vocational programs in-country. RYHF is dedicated to uniting young men and women of all tribal background and religious affiliations in the "RYHF Family", throughout their education and beyond. We work to create a bond between our students through regular Facebook communications, gatherings, and student chapters, building relationships that we believe contribute to the country's healing of civil war prejudices/wounds and helps move progress forward. Liberia's National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) and the Ministry of Education are RYHF partners, working together to evaluate and adapt to the evolving needs of the country. RYHF currently sponsors students in areas of study that include Agriculture, Social Work, Nursing/Laboratory Technician Training, Teacher Training, Engineering, + vocations of Plumbing, Carpentry, and Masonry. We're also addressing the serious void of opportunity for Liberian students with special needs. We currently provide vocational scholarships for deaf students (with interpreters), are expanding into braille education, and are developing a special education curriculum for our partner teacher training programs.
