Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide technology access and education to under-resourced communities, bridging the digital divide and creating pathways to opportunity.

About This Cause

Compudopt is a national nonprofit working to close the digital divide and economically empower communities by providing free computers, affordable internet, and tech education. Founded in 2007, Compudopt began with a simple yet powerful idea: corporate computers, typically retired within 2-3 years, could be repurposed to change the path of a person's life. What started in Houston has grown into a nationwide movement. Today, Compudopt has programs in 68 cities across 27 states, transforming surplus technology into life-changing tools for families in need. We focus on three key pillars to create meaningful, long-term impact: ● Device Access – We refurbish and distribute donated corporate laptops to households without a working device. All equipment is securely wiped and pre-loaded with essential software. ● Connectivity – We help households secure high-speed home internet so they can fully participate in school, work, and everyday life. ● Education – Our hands-on digital education programs serve children, teens, and adults at no cost: 1) Tiny Techs: Play-based computer learning for early learners 2) Early Adopters: Foundational computer skills for elementary students 3) STEAM Team: Tech plus creativity for middle school students 4) Learn2Earn: High school students build skills and earn a laptop 5) Pathways: Career exploration, mentoring, and next-step planning 6) Digital Skills Builders: Essential tech skills for adults navigating jobs and services Impact to Date: ● Individuals Impacted: 888,900+ ● Devices Distributed: 170,414 ● Households Connected to Internet: 55,559 ● Students Served Through Education Programs: 95,518 We also support sustainability through our ITAD+ (IT Asset Disposition Plus) service, which offers secure, environmentally responsible disposition of corporate technology. Devices are repurposed for social good, meeting ESG goals while transforming lives. Through partnerships, donations, and volunteer engagement, Compudopt continues to expand digital equity across the United States. Together, we can empower the next generation of learners, leaders, and innovators – one device, one household, and one opportunity at a time.
