Mission Statement
The Partnership's mission is to transform schools and revolutionize school systems to empower all students with a high-quality education. We achieve our mission by dramatically accelerating academic proficiency for students in the Los Angeles Unified School District's highest-poverty schools, and by removing barriers, pioneering new programs and scaling success to benefit all LAUSD students.
About This Cause
The Partnership considers a high-quality public education to be a civil right, one that we are determined to ensure for not only the more than 13,000 students enrolled in our 20 network schools, but for all 550,000 LA Unified students. A first-rate education provides learning opportunities that inspire joy within a space where students feel safe to share their histories, cultures and voices. Within this environment, scholars build the skills, knowledge, social-emotional resilience and awareness that will move them to and through a four-year college or university. The Partnership holds college completion as our North Star because a bachelor’s degree is a proven pathway to significantly greater economic mobility compared to a high school diploma or its equivalent. College completion can be life-changing for our scholars and similarly marginalized students, as well as their families. The Partnership was founded as a nonprofit organization in 2007 to address the public education crisis in Los Angeles. Fifteen years on, some inequities are as obvious as the run-down facilities of an under-invested school, while others remain buried in the weeds of LA Unified policies and practices. We have vowed to eradicate the inequities manifested in high-need district schools and those that place a systemic stranglehold on the future of LA Unified’s most-vulnerable students. We remain committed to the difficult, often arduous, process of what comes next: developing, piloting and refining alternatives that transform schools, uplift marginalized students and remain sustainable when implemented at scale by LA Unified.
