Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a fun, friendly, safe competitive environment for all individuals to participate in the competition and spirit of softball.

About This Cause

NOW IN ITS 41ST YEAR, Seattle's Emerald City Softball Association is the Pacific Northwest's largest softball organization geared to LGBTQ+ and allied individuals. The ECSA started in 1980 in Seattle as a group of friends playing ball and has grown to be a welcoming place for LGBTQ+ and allied players to partake in the competition and spirit of softball. It is now one of the oldest and largest LGBTQ+ and allied softball leagues in the nation. As a member of the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA) -- which represents more than 13,000 players and 800 teams in 46 member cities in the U.S. and Canada -- the ECSA sends its top teams to each year's NAGAAA Gay Softball World Series. We are dedicated to the communities in which compete in, and our teams within our association give back to our communities via volunteering and/or fund raising. The ECSA also host an annual softball tournament, the Emerald City Classic (ECC), which is the largest softball tournaments geared toward LGBTQ+ and allied individuals in the Pacific Northwest. Other than our NAGAAA World Series, ECC is one of the largest tournament in the nation. Since the inception of the tournament, we have grown in size. Every year the tournament gets bigger. Starting out with 10 teams in the beginning, we are now at 60+ teams that come to Seattle and compete every year. The ECSA and the Emerald City Classic is funded by its members and participating teams. While the season and tournament require each team that participates to pay an entrance fee, these fees do not completely cover all of the incidental costs, such as field rental fees, umpire fees, water, ice, field maintenance, trophies, t-shirts; this list goes on. This is where donations can assist us to ensure our season and tournament are successful every year. The additional funds we receive from donors provides the contributions needed to cover the costs to create long lasting memories for the players, fans and the community year over year.
